Objectives of the project: lifted up doubts for the students

I thought had understood as it would be to 1st part of the project, but thinking better, relendo the site of Pioneer and recollecting the meeting of the 26, they ended up appearing some you doubt:
1) should the " report " of the 31 contain general information on Mars or just those referring ones to the team that I to choose? (in the meeting I did understand a thing and in the other site).
2) will that report be elaborated individually or for the teams? (in the meeting I understood that would be individual but reading the site thought would be in group).
3) does that report need to have images, graphs, etc?
4) the one what with who happens he/she doesn't know how to move with Power Point, HTML, etc? No
would he/she/you give to be in the Word?
PS: I think some divergences that I found there to be between the site and the meeting are due to the fact of me to be an aberration with relationship to English. And therefore I might have interpreted wrong some things of the site. I might also have forgotten or interpreted wrong some information of the meeting...
- Objectives of the colony
I have a problem as the 100 colonists' choice. How can we choose 100 people to go for a colony without knowing the objective of that colony? If it goes a colony to populate Mars the 100 colonists they would not be the same ones than in a colony for experiences in different atmosphere. First we have to know which the objective of the mission to choose who it goes, don't they agree?
General orientations for Projeto Pioneer first stage (Cristiana Assumpção)
In this first phase, you will be acquiring information on Mars, for
to drift and to do a model of an adapted colony the conditions that
they will be faced. In other words, you will reach two main objectives:
1. to research information on Mars.
2. to synthesize and to present this information creating a model for the colony
based on the result of the researches.
In the site of Pioneer, specific questions were placed for you help them the
they maintain the focus of the main points, but you don't owe any in way
to limit her/it these questions. He/she/you was already very clear through the discussions
of you that many aspects exist they be considered her. Be only the careful
of they forget not to answer the main questions!
Good researchers should learn how to formulate questions, and to look for information

Now that you already discussed plenty, it is hour of beginning to prepare the

aspect. The objective of the presentation is you guide them so that they synthesize him/it
result of the research, creating a definition for the model to be adopted
to create the colony. In other words, you will arrive the inside a consent of yours
team, and later to present this to the larger group. As all good research, owes

atmosphere of the FORUM, in teams. To ponder efforts in an only aspect.
You discuss everything again again together after the teams have
presented your results and models. At this time, the group all will join
to formulate the final and including model that will be adopted.
The results of this research will be placed in the website, but if you not if
they sit down comfortable with HTML or PowerPoint, they can do in same Word, that the
people transform. If you use Word, it is easy. You can Save as... and
to choose HTML... he transforms the document automatically for you. These
presentations should have a version in English, that will be placed in the site
for the judges' of the contest evaluation here.
I will place then, well delineated, what will happen starting from now:
1. students join to one of the certain teams in Webquest.
2. Times works in the atmosphere of the forum for us to share results of
he/she researches and they set up your presentations, creating an aspect of model of the
colony in Mars. Even if there is not total consent, most expires....
we have the to arrive some conclusion!
3. Times creates the presentations. Of course illustrations and graphs always help
to support your arguments. Don't forget to validate your results with
references!
4. Times presents your models.
5. group creates a general model starting from the sub-models. This model will be
placed the disposition in the website. He/she/you should also be in ENGLISH.
6. once the model is ready, you will be ready to begin the
second phase.
In the second phase, teacher Jecel will be personally with you, and him,
together with Airton, they will be helping them they create her/it the colony in a world
virtual. But we will make a thing of every time. More details of Monday
phase is for later.
ALWAYS look in the site of Pioneer. Otherwise, it is easy to lose the focus. I liked
when one of you went back to Mars Millennium site to recollect the objective
of the colony. It is for that that we placed not only the site, as the forum and the
reports of Ana for you. Use these resources daily! This way they won't have
danger of getting lost.
Ideas about the general organization of the colony of this stage
Sources of energy
1. Geotérmica
- With relationship to the use of the energy geotérmica, it can have a problem, that is the following: if the colony will be close to the poles (to have easy I access á água),os volcanos they necessarily have of being close to the poles. I thought about some solutions:
1 - if there are not volcanos close to the poles and the colony roots far away from the pole we would have to recycle the water infinitely, what would give a great initial expense, but I think would end up compensating.
2 - we can try to transport the energy geotérmica until the poles.
2. nuclear energy
All are afraid of q nuclear power stations they contaminate the atmosphere, but and if the plant was in another vial and if the two vials (the one of the colony and the one of the usina)fossem

3. Biogás

Storms in Mars and the subject of the location of the colony

Pregnant women and children in the colony

In spite of the children to be more adaptable " they are much more unstable psicologicamente than the adults. It imagines if you order a 6 year-old child for there and when he does your 16 he sees a rioted anarchist and he/she decides to pitch the whole place...

1 - it is not more complicated to transport pregnant?

Vials
I have some time I gave the idea of the two vials, only that she came with same ideas, only that with things like this, one in Ecuador and one in the pole. System of communication Mars-earth
We will work in a good system of telecommunications Mars-earth. I know that the colony should be completely independent of the Earth, but it is even so necessary, because, as Airton spoke, an accident is happened that cannot be solved by the team of there, or then in the initial phase, they are there the settlers, preparing to set up and suddenly it finishes the communication
The official language in the colony
Sincerely, in that topic I don't think has many problems in choosing English. It is nowadays the universal language. If you will render attention, in most of the films, until the aliens they speak English! But speaking serious now... removing Chinese and yours more than 2000 dialects, English is the language more spoken in the world. Of the big ones
languages, it is the one that it is official language in the largest I number of countries. And of the western languages it is the one of easier grammar. Even the USA not being financing everything alone, big part of the capital it belongs to them, and of the technology also. (In addition, English that created English were, not the Americans!)

The students' observations with relationship to the reports of evaluation 1999
I gave a glance in the reports, this morning, and I found legal the idea of placing the own participants' sentences clearer ...Fica than he/she needs to be changed and researched, as for instance, never to leave of placing the source of the information!
Questions in this stage
- And how will the distribution of water be in the vial, do I say, will he/she have a `Mini-sea `, or some thing of the type?
- Is to take the oldest physically the only way of benefitting of your life experience?

General evaluation of this stage
With base in this document, it can be verified that the students started to focus the objectives of the project Pioneer and of the colony in Mars, suggesting be relatively confused with relationship to that, fact that was of waiting, tends in view the very big inclusion of themes discussed by them since the beginning of the work. The discussions here were rich in ideas and suggestions on the part of the students, but just in this stage (report 5) it can be begun to observe a certain concern of them with relationship to the references of done researches (to observe the part of storms in Mars and the students' observations in relation to the evaluation reports, in this report). This reveals a beginning of positive change of posture front to the knowledge and the research. For so much, I believe that they were important the evaluation reports, which pointed the lack of such references, and the direct orientations repeatedly done by the teachers and for the coordinator of the project.
In the period in that the 78 e-mails were changed analyzed in this document, the responsible teachers for the course project in Brazil organized a small meeting with the students, in the sense of to clear pending doubts and to address them more strongly in your researches. The coordinator of the project in NY, Cristiana Assumpção, also made detailed orientations through e-mail, still reinforcing more the objectives be her followed. In this meeting, an important point to be outstanding was the larger distance coordination-students' idea placed by one of the participants regarding the coordinator's fact Cristiana to be in the United States and to communicate just through e-mail with the students. This indicates a possible consequence to be proven of the use of Internet for communication in the imaginary of the users, in other words, in spite of the change of e-mails to be intense and fast, the students sit down a larger distance between them and the coordination, and that can contemplate significantly in the affective relationship among them.
The forum of discussions still this being very a little used, fact that can be consequence of individual difficulties of access to the same and resistance in using this space of discussions. The students seem to prefer to use e-mails.
With relationship to the general organization of the colony, a significant progress was not observed in this stage of the project, once they were not new lifted up discussion points.
Projeto Pioneer site this becoming more and more important in the participants' orientation, once new documents and references are constantly being placed by the coordination. An important point to be evaluated is exactly it as the participants are indeed using the site for this end.
